Kids Clubs Battles at the Springfield Capitals Classic

The Mt. Zion Kids Club followed up a great start at the Lincoln Railer Rumble with another good showing at the Springfield Captials Classic.  Mt. Zion had an excellent turn out despite the icy conditions with 28 wrestlers participating.  The team finished with a combined record of 44-41 with 9 1st Place finishes.  

John Bowling and Andrew Wike dominated their competition in the 5-6 year old division.  Grant Edwards and Matthew Wike had very good showings at the 7-8 year old division.  Bowen Bender won his bracket in the 7-8 year old division in just his second tournament.  

At the 9-10 year old division, Jacob Morgan and Ryan Scharf won their brackets for the second week in a row.  Connor Sphar battled to win a match in the Midget division a great accomplishment after just two weeks of practice.  Robert Bennett finished 2nd to a wrestler who also won his bracket at the Novice Division. 

In the Novice Division, Adrien Payne followed up an excellent tournament in Lincoln with another 1st place finish.  Padric Ready competing in his first tournament in 3 years, placed 3rd.   

Practice partners, Jake Eckenrod and Nathan Jozsa, squared off in one of the best matches of the day.  The two fought off shot after shot and ended 3 periods with a 1-1 tie.  Jake won the match in the 30 second overtime.  

In the Senior Division, Nick Stroud placed first battling through a tough bracket.  Tim McElroy also wrestled very well en route to a 3rd place finish.  Adrien Payne wrestled in 2 divisions (Novice and Senior) and fought very hard in the Senior Division.  

Gabriel Sphar and Michael Lane participated in their first tournament.  They competed very well as rookies.
