Mt. Zion Places 10th at the Joe Bee Invitational

The Mt. Zion wrestlers had another solid day in Springfield.  At 130 lbs. Bo Schlosser placed 4th.  At 135 lbs. Carlos Maldonado placed 1st.  At 145 lbs. Joe Butler placed 6th.  At 152 lbs. Brandon Watson finished in 3rd place.

Freshman Bo Schlosser knocked off Justin Colson from Pekin before a tough 6-3 loss to Andrew Zobac of Canton.  In the 3rd place match Bo wrestled the #12 state ranked wrestler and state qualifier Lyle Schallenberger to a 1-1 tie in regulation before losing in OT.

Sophomore Carlos Maldonado won his 1st match by fall in 1:53.  He then eased by Larry Groth of SHG in the semifinals before pinning Sly Hardy of Lanphier in finals.

Freshman Joe Butler lost a tough match in the 1st round to Kyle Viven of Mahomet by a score of 14-13.  Joe then battled his way back through the consolation bracket pinning Dalton Blakeman of Chatham and knocking off Austin Miller of Pekin 5-0.  He then met Viven again in the 5th place match, but lost another tough one by a score of 10-5.

Junior Brandon Watson knocked off Victor Kimberlin of SHG 9-3 before meeting state ranked Jake Constant of Lanphier.  Brandon lost a tough 7-1 decision to Constant.  He then pinned Pete Carpenter of Chatham in the 3rd place match.

At 119 lbs. senior Jonathan Salas lost his quarterfinal match to Alex Vermuelen of Moline and then lost a tough 3-2 decision to Wade Beeman of Springfield High in the consolotation bracket.

At 125 lbs in a very tough bracket, John Harmon lost his first match to Anthony Conley of Springfield Southeast.  He won first consolation bracket match by forfeit.  He then lost to Kory Woodkirk of Canton in the next round.

At 160 lbs. Freshman Klinton Babb lost his 1st round match to Alan Myers of Canton and then lost a tough match in the consolation bracket to Matt Williams of Lanphier.  

At 171 lbs. Freshman Chris Grimstead lost a decision to T.J. Hall of Pekin and then was knocked off by Randy Tomizoli of of Lanphier.  

At 189 lbs. Freshman Derrick Lucas found himself in another very tough bracket and lost two hard fought matches. 

At 215 lbs. Freshman Tyler Betzler lost a heartbreaker in the 1st round to Rodney Young of Cahokia 11-10.  He then lost a consolation match to Allen Droll of Springfield High 5-0.

At 275 lbs. Senior Brian Oros lost two tough matches.  The first to Joey Farris of Springfield High and the second to Tyler Reid of Normal.
